Alebrijes (al-e-bree-hays) are fantastical animals originally conceived by Mexico City artist Pedro Linares during a fever dream in the 1930s. He created the creatures in papier-mâché and they were discovered by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
This little hummingbird alebrije is individually carved from copal wood from the dry tropical forests of Oaxaca. It’s ready to come home to you.
